Supervisors terminate MCSO contract with Guadalupe

GUADALUPE -- The Maricopa County Supervisors will meet Monday to re-vote on whether Sheriff Joe Arpaio may end his office's contract with the town of Guadalupe.

Arpaio said he wanted to end the contract after criticism from Guadalupe's former mayor about his controversial crime sweeps.

Man gets 258 years for sexual misconduct with a minor

County Attorney Andrew Thomas announced today that Glendale resident Darrin Wiles, 39 (DOB

10/31/68), has been sentenced to 258 years in prison for charges related to sexual misconduct and sexual exploitation of a minor female victim. Wiles was found guilty by a jury on the 12 counts presented to them. The verdicts were returned on August 5, 2008. Commissioner James Blomo issued the sentence

Scottsdale eatery bombed, second attack in four years

Federal investigators and Scottsdale detectives are sifting through the rubble after a late-night explosion at Dickie's Dogs restaurant in Scottsdale that left the owner injured.

This is the second time this has happened at Dickie's Dogs in the past three or four years.

Most of the damage from Sunday night's explosion, while extensive, was limited to the restaurant, which is located in the area Bell Road and Thompson Peak Parkway. A neighboring business did sustain some drywall damage.

The explosion happened at about 10:30 Sunday night.

Felon runs over bicyclist, crashes into house, attacked by K9

A wanted felon was captured in Phoenix after he reportedly ran over a bicyclist and crashed his car into a house.

Police and federal marshals had Joe Leon Standley, 38, under surveillance on Wednesday.

Federal marshals had a warrant for his arrest. He was being sought for a weapons violation.

According to police, Standley apparently became aware that the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force was following him and fled the scene. He ran a stop sign at 15th Avenue and Heatherbrae. He ran over a man on a bicycle and then crashed his car into the side of a house.

SCOTTSDALE - If highway-safety experts were voting, Scottsdale would ban text-messaging while driving, and a whole lot more.

Experts attending last week's Governors Highway Safety Association conference at the Fairmont Scottsdale said the city ought to consider banning cellphone use in addition to texting while driving. And Scottsdale ought to back up a ban with education and enforcement, they said.
